The Provider Enrollment, Chain and Ownership System (PECOS) is an online Medicare enrollment management system which allows providers and entities to enroll as Medicare providers or suppliers. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act requires that physicians and non-physician practitioners enroll in Medicare to order and refer services, including clinical laboratory tests, for Medicare beneficiaries. Medicare WILL NOT pay for clinical laboratory services ordered by a provider that is not enrolled in PECOS. Because timely lab testing is so vital to patient care, all providers are strongly encouraged to enroll in PECOS, allowing Horizon Laboratory to continue to serve and care for your Medicare patients.
